A brilliant final day at the Bergen 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships saw six championship records and three European U23 records. The Netherlands’ incredible Niels Laros won the 800m for a unique distance double, plus four golds for Spain.
European Athletics President Dobromir Karamarinov was full of praise for the four-day event. “On behalf of European Athletics, I extend our sincere congratulations to the Bergen 2025 Local Organising Committee and the many dedicated volunteers — you even gave us four days of perfect weather!
“Thank you for delivering a first-class championship and creating an experience that will remain a lifelong memory for everyone involved.”
In total, 30 nations won medals, there were 12 new championship records and three European U23 records across four days. The final day included:
- A brilliant 800m victory by Niels Laros
- Saga Vanninen set new records as she defended her heptathlon crown
- Spain and Great Britain set new European U23 records in the 4x400m finals
- France and Great Britain win 4x100m gold in championship records
- Ines Lopez and Iosif Kesidis win throws titles for Spain and Cyprus
- Poland’s Maciej Megier win a thrilling 3000m steeplechase final
- Maria Forero win 5000m gold for Spain
- Italy’s Matteo Sioli leap to high jump gold
- Ramona Elena Verman complete a Romanian double with long jump gold
- Pole vault and triple jump gold for Czechia’s Viktorie Ondrova and Spain’s Pablo Delgado
- 10,000m race walk gold for Türkiye’s Mazlum Demir
