Francois Msafiri, a Congolese refugee, who has been living in Kenya for more than a decade will run from Eldoret to Nairobi for peace. The distance is 320 kilometres.
The 26-year-old will have six Kenyan pacers. Two runners will do pace-setting duties on rotation every 50K.
Msafiri will traverse the North Rift in Eldoret from Saturday 6:00 AM. He will arrive at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday at 10:00 AM.
He ran 512K from Nairobi to Mombasa in 54:27 in 2021 to raise money to support the education of at least 5,000 refugee students from the Congo.
“I started getting tired after the 300 kilometres due to lack of sleep for two days, and the journey was long too, but I pull myself through since I was committed to finishing the race,” the ultramarathoner said.
He told AllAfrica media, “I am in this race to raise funds for refugee children to see them through school. Many are getting early pregnancies, some are into drug abuse and I want to change their story.”
