The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series® today announced the addition of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Guangzhou Half Marathon, which will make its debut on March 31, 2018 in the Huadu district, Guangzhou, China. The event will consist of both a half marathon and 6 km happy run and will be the third event in the 2018 Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon China Series, joining Rock ‘n’ Roll Luoping and Rock ‘n’ Roll Chengdu.
“We are excited to bring another exciting Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series event to China,” said Stacey Campbell, Vice President of Global Events. “Dating back to the Qing Dynasty, the Huadu district in Guangzhou provides participants and spectators with a truly unique and historic race location. We are excited to welcome athletes from all over the world to join us as we bring fun to the run at this brand-new event.”
Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province and one of China’s main industrial centers, has both a modern and international appeal. With a history dating back over 2,200 years, Guangzhou is regarded as one of the earliest international trade port cities in the world. As the “Backyard Garden” of Guangzhou, the Huadu district will offer runners from around the world a unique race experience.
Influential Chinese indie rock band Mosaic will headline the music portion of the event, bringing fun to the run along with nine additional rock bands and DJs performing at the main stage and at music stations along the course.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll Guangzhou Half Marathon will also provide special finisher medals for participants which combine local culture and Rock ‘n’ Roll elements. The participants will also have the opportunity to earn entries into the Abbott World Marathon Major events including the 2018 Chicago Marathon and the 2018 Berlin Marathon.
