The 33rd annual Vancouver Sun Run is happening April 23rd and there will be many ways to help support those in need.   The 2017 Vancouver Sun Run Presented by Ford will be partnering up with the Jack Gin Family Foundation to provide underserved youth groups with free registrations. Up to 450 youth registrations will be provided to groups throughout the Lower Mainland.

“We are so pleased to be working with The Jack Gin Family Foundation this year,” said Leza Maloney, Co-Chair of the Vancouver Sun Run.  “We have many requests every year from individuals and groups in need of financial assistance that want to participate in the run, so this is a great way to provide some help.”

The Vancouver Sun Run has donated more than $2.5 million in proceeds for important causes since 1985. $25,000 is donated annually to the Vancouver Sun Raise-a-Reader campaign and $50,000 is given in support of BC’s amateur athletes via the Achilles Track Society and the Vancouver Sun International Jerome Track Classic. In 2014, the Vancouver Sun Run launched an exciting participant charity program, providing registrants the opportunity to raise funds for local charities through our pledging program.  Over those 3 years, Vancouver Sun Run registrants have raised over $90,000 for six excellent charities: BC Children’s Hospital; Heart and Stroke Foundation; BC SPCA; BC Women’s Hospital + Health Foundation; Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation; and Ronald McDonald House British Columbia.  The generous donation from the Jack Gin Family Foundation this year will put the four year total well over $100,000.

“We are excited to be aligning ourselves with such a great event,” said Jack Gin former CEO of Extreme CCTV and Founder of the Jack Gin Family Foundation.  “My good friend, Steve Kim, a staunch believer in youth athletics, introduced me to the idea of supporting young runners from across the Lower Mainland. I look forward to working with the Sun Run team and Steve to determine the best way to distribute the free registrations.”

To build on his support for this initiative, Gin is also challenging other individuals or businesses to meet or beat his donation.

The Jack Gin Family Foundation was founded in 2008 and focuses on causes related to women, children, education and health. For more information, please visit: https://www.vancouverfoundation.ca/jackgin

About the Jack Gin Family Foundation

Born, raised and educated in Vancouver, Jack Gin is a business executive, entrepreneur, engineer and philanthropist who supports non-profit organizations ranging from local schools and hospitals to international aid agencies.

After three decades of working in global business and winning the Canada Export Award and an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Jack Gin formed the Jack Gin Family Foundation (JGFF) to give back to the local community in perpetuity. JGFF supports local and international aid programs, including drilling a deep well once a year where women and children do not otherwise have access to safe potable water, and supporting a school for orphans in Ndola, Zambia. JGFF supports projects where we can be involved personally, to ensure funds are used effectively.
