Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo broke the 15-kilometre world best-known time on Sunday clocking in at 40:27 at the NN Zevenheuvelenloop in Nijmegen, Holland.

It is the same time as he ran the first 15km during his then-world record half marathon performance in Lisbon in 2021 when he clocked 57:31.

Kiplimo defended his title, which he ran in 41:05 in 2023. Kiplimo led the race from gun to tape.

He reached 10km in 27:15, which was 34 seconds faster than his pace from last year and by that point had at least a half-km lead over the chase pack.

Mike Foppen of the Netherlands finished second in 43:19. Great Briton Marc Scott took third in 43:21.

Kiplimo is the reigning world cross-country champion. The performance was especially good considering the quality of the field, which included Victor Kiplangat.

Women’s race

In the women’s race, Ethiopia’s Mizan Alem won in 46:51. The women’s race, however, was more tactical than the men’s. Alem sat in the lead pack during the first half of the race. She patiently picked off Dutchwoman Diane van Es before the 4km mark — she led the rest of the way. Alem clocked a 31:27 along the way.

Van Es finished second in 47:51.

Ethiopians Letesenbet Gidey with her 44:20 and Tirunesh Dibaba 46:29 are the only two to run faster.

Eight women ran under 48-minutes.
