Cheptegei, who holds the world records in the 5000m and 10,000m, is excited about the opportunity to race in Amsterdam.

“I’m looking forward to racing in Amsterdam and writing the next chapter of my career,” said Cheptegei. “It’s a city and a race rich in history, and I can’t wait to create a memorable moment during the 50th edition of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon!”

The Ugandan running legend made his marathon debut in Valencia in 2023, went on to win Olympic 10,000m gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and returned to the marathon distance at the Tokyo Marathon in 2025, where he clocked a personal best of 2:05:59.

Looking ahead, Cheptegei will next compete at the Antrim Coast Half Marathon on Sunday, 24 August 2025, before lining up in Amsterdam on Sunday, 19 October 2025.
