Elijah Motonei Manangoi has been banned for two years by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).
The 27-year-old Kenyan middle-distance runner missed at least three out-of-competition tests over a 12-month period.
He has run as fast as 1:44.15 in the 800m distance and 3:28.80 in the 1500m.
Manangoi is a two-time national champion in the 1500m distance and had won gold and silver at the London and Beijing World Athletics Championships in the same distance.
