Lanni Marchant of London, Ontario rocked the Canadian road racing world in Rotterdam Sunday as she clocked 2H31.5 in the marathon for 5th place. This law student dropped her personal best over 12 minutes after her debut in Chicago last October. This 28-year-old graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga ran 34:16.36 for the 10,000m at Stanford back in 2006, but she has carefully prepared for an attack on the longer distance with a half marathon win in Atlanta one month ago with 74:06. Athletics Canada does not offer an Olympic B standard in the marathon so Lanni can not be chosen as a rising star. Krista DuChene of Brantford, Ontario and mother of 3, ran an outstanding race in 7th place with another personal best of 2h32.06 improving by almost 7 minutes . Both these Canadians miss the Canadian Olympic A standard of 2h29.55.
Kimberly Hyacinthe
Kimberly Hyacinthe of Montreal moved to the top of the 2012 Canadian sprint lists with a double win in Gaudeloupe with a personal best in the 100m of 11.63 and 23.69 in the 200m. This 23 year old won the 2012 CIS gold medals in the 60m and 300m.
