Richard Friedrich and Rosie Williams won the Guernsey Marathon Sunday.
Over 170 runners ran the marathon. Friedrich, a 39-year-old German runner, who won the 2011 Munich Marathon in the time of 2:19:27, took first overall in the time of 2:41:55.
Williams stopped the clock in 3:12:26 to finish ninth on Guernsey’s all-time list for the distance – it’s a hilly course.
Guernsey Islanders turned out for the 2020 Guernsey Marathon Sunday, after a seven-month postponement of the event due to the coronavirus pandemic. Guernsey is an island near Normandy, France, however, it is independent, but within the British Bailiwick.
The race starts and finishes at Castle Pier in St Peter Port, and takes in some of the island’s most iconic landmarks. Along the way, the course wends over a winding route taking in most of the island.
As well as the marathon, there is a marathon relay and 2K Fun Run for kids.
The Relay is split into either two-person 21.1K laps or a varied 5-person team format.
