Kenyan Lucy Murigi won the third race of the 2021 World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) World Cup on Saturday. The race was held over the La Montee du Nid d’Aigle (Rise of the Eagle’s Nest) course on the side of Mont Blanc at Saint-Gervais-Les-Bains in France.

Murigi is coming off of a third-place finish during her previous WRMA race in Grossglockner Berglauf at Heiligenblut in Austria.

The 2021 edition was the 34th running of La Montee du Nid d’Aigle. The uphill-only 19.5-kilometre course offers competitors over 2,000 metres of climbing from stat to finish.

Murigi won in the time of 2:06:08, which is two seconds off the course record that was set 15 years ago by Isabelle Guillot.

The 36-year-old is a WMRA 2017 World Champion. She defended the title in 2018 in Andorra.

The men’s race was won by Italian Xavrier Chevrier in 1:44:25.

The 31-year-old won the 2017 European Mountain Running Championships. He owns a marathon best of 2:19:35 and a half-marathon best of 63:25. he finished ninth at the 2019 World Championships.

The next World Cup event takes place in Koscielisko, Poland at Tatra SkyMarathon on July 24.
