From Harry Jerome Track Classic
Canada’s Melissa Bishop, the 2015 World Championship silver medallist in the 800-metre event, ran a personal best in the 1500-metre distance last weekend on her home turf at the University of Windsor, clocking a 4:09:38.
American Brenda Martinez, the 2013 IAAF World Championships bronze medallist in the 800m, ran a seasonal best of 2:00.18 in Los Angeles last week. Both of these athletes will collide at the Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome Track Classic on June 17th at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby – they will race in their specialty, the 800-metre event.
Martinez trains with legendary coach, Joe Vigil who plans her program, which is overseen by her husband, Carlos Handler. Her best time in the 800m is 1:57.91, while Bishop, who is still trained by her U of W coach Dennis Fairall is the Canadian record holder with her 1:57.52.
