The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced Monday that the organization has provisionally suspended Mexican athlete Yamile Herrera. Herrera showed a presence or use of the prohibited substance oxandrolone.

The 26-year-old competes in the sprints and holds personal bests of 11.55 and 23.60 in the 100 metre and 200 metre events, respectively. Both marks were achieved in April of this year at the Centro de Atletismo Una Nueva Historia, Apizaco.

Her performances dropped dramatically during the 2025 season on both events.

Oxandrolone (often sold under the brand names Oxandrin or Anavar) is a synthetic anabolic steroid. It mimics the hormone testosterone to promote muscle growth, increase protein synthesis, and aid in weight gain.
