The Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon Series® today announced the addition of a new venue to its international tour in Medellín, Colombia. Taking place on March 10, 2019, the race will be the first musically themed running event to take place in Colombia on with half marathon, 10K and 5K distances.
This event is perfect for local runners and those from nearby countries in Latin America as well as international athletes who love to travel and experience two passions at the same time. This is a chance to run and explore the second largest city in Colombia. The Medellín metropolitan area possesses an abundance of parks, libraries, museums and public spaces where many cultural events take place. The City of Medellín was named the most innovative city in the world in Wall Street Journal’s City of the Year contest. It is a destination that runners and their families will be able to enjoy during their stay.
“The Rock ‘n’ Roll Medellín Half Marathon will be a fun-filled event which we hope will promote a healthier lifestyle within the community and motivate youth to live a proactive life,” said Wilber Anderson, CEO & Founder of Colombia Tri Events. “This event should encourage the development of cultural and active tourism in Medellín as it sets itself on the radar for runners around the world. This event will leave a lasting impression on the city and will have a positive impact on local restaurants, hotels and businesses.”
Edwin Vargas, Co-Owner of Colombia Tri Events adds: “Colombia is a land of tradition known for the quality of its athletes, and we are excited to introduce the Rock ‘n’ Roll Medellín Half Marathon to the community. Colombia is a unique destination for international travelers with its strategic location in the heart of the American Continent, tropical climate all year round and the kindness, warmth and passion of Colombian hospitality.”
All distances will start and finish at Barefoot Park (Parque De Los Pies Descalzos). The musically themed event offers live music on stages located along the scenic course, which will go through beautiful parks, historical sites and vibrant residential areas. The musical race experience will culminate with a headliner concert and finish line festival for runners and spectators.
“This type of event helps promote Medellín as a city full of talented, entrepreneurial and hospitable people willing to show visitors to best parts of the community,” says Maria Fernando Galeano Rojo, Secretary of Economic Development of Medellín. “We cannot wait to show off the positive social and urban transformation we have had these past few years.”
Event weekend in Medellín kicks off with a two-day Health and Fitness Expo taking place in the emblematic Convention Center in Plaza Mayor (Plaza Mayor Exposiciones Medellin- Pabellón Blanco) on Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9. Participants will be able to collect their race packets and bib numbers at the Expo as well as enjoy a variety of health and running exhibitors, samples of sports nutrition products and interactive clinics.
