The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced its annual academic awards with the University of Cincinnati collecting several honors. On a team level, both Bearcats squads were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award recipients while six individual Bearcats also earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.

// BOTH TEAMS HONORED

Both teams were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award list after each met the 3.00 GPA threshold and scored points at the NCAA Championships once again this past season. Since the 2007-08 academic year, the women’s program has met the standard 10-consecutive years while the men have achieved the standards needed for the eighth time in that time frame.

The UC women finished the year with a 3.50 GPA to earn their place on the list as one of 218 women’s teams that were honored. The men posted a cumulative 3.30 GPA and were one of 142 men’s teams to earn a place on the national listing. Overall, men and women combined, 360 NCAA Division I teams earned academic accolades from the Association.

// INDIVIDUAL SUCCESS

Individually, six different Bearcats were selected for academic honors as each held a 3.25 or better GPA for the year and met one of the following athletic standards:

– Indoor: a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national Top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national Top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.

– Outdoor: a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

The four men that earned a place on the academic list include Alex Bloom, Dan Huben, Macklin Tudor and Adrian Valles while the women’s list included Loretta Blaut and Bryana Robinson. All told, the six Bearcats were listed among the 1,268 honorees for the 2016-17 track and field seasons with 752 women and 516 men earning all-academic honors.

Collectively, the six honors for UC marked the third year in a row the program had at least six recipients named after 11 were selected last year and nine the previous season. Individually, both Blaut and Valles collected their third national honor from the USTFCCCA while Tudor and Bloom both were selected for a second time in their careers.
