There is a global running boom going on.

More than 10,000 runners have already registered to participate in the Zurich Marató Barcelona 2025. The race takes place on March 16th. With still more than six months to go until the 46th edition of this race, Barcelona’s Marathon has already reached half of the total number of registrations obtained in 2024, and it does so two months ahead of last year’s progression. This is the best registration record since 2019, with the prospect of surpassing the participation record set in 2016 with 20,385 runners. A figure that the organization has already come close to reaching in this last edition, with 20,000 participants.

In relation to the progression of the last editions, the organization of the Zurich Marató Barcelona also calculates that more than half of the runners will be international, being 57 per cent of the total in 2024 and that there will be at least 25 per cent of marathon runners. Likewise, the premiere of a new, more central and faster course in 2024, with a reduction of 30 metres of elevation gain compared to the previous route. The previous course stood for two decades. The race will wind its way through more than fifteen emblematic corners of Barcelona, turning Barcelona’s Marathon into one of the marathons with fewer curves in the world and improving the growth of the event’s participation.
