The trouble for Turkish athlete Sultan Haydar could have been avoided simply by taking a doping test. But Haydar avoided doing so, so, might as well have doped and risked getting caught.

According to the Athletics Integrity Unit, on January 31, 2024, the Athletics Integrity Unit (“AIU”) was informed that Ms Sultan Haydar had failed to submit to sample collection on that day in the context of an attempted out-of-competition test by the AIU based on whereabouts information provided by the Athlete.
Oops.
Haydar holds the national record in the marathon at 2:21:27. She has run the half marathon in the time of 1:09:12. Both personal bests were run in 2023. The 37-year-old is ending her competitive career with a two-year and six-month suspension. She will be 40 by the time she may compete again.
