The European Athletics Championships are wrapping up on Sunday. Along the way, several standout performances have taken place in Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, UK. The Games that started in 1934 in Turin, Italy, will have been the 27th edition since. Next up is Chorzów, Poland, at Stadion Śląski in 2028. Friday saw Switzerland’s Audrey Werro bounce back from a tough fall to win the 800m.

Friday also saw Norway’s Karsten Warholm sprint to a championship record performance to dominate the men’s 400m hurdles final. The 30-year-old Tokyo Olympic gold medallist dropped the field and then powered through the finish in a dominant display, winning by over one second in 46.63.
Germany’s Emil Agyekum settled for silver in 47.87, while Turkey’s Ismail Nezir secured bronze in 48.26.
Warholm continues to hold the world record from the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games, which he won in 45.94.

Nadia Battocletti
Meanwhile, Italian Nadia Battocletti won the women’s 10,000m.
The 26-year-old took control during the final laps of the 25-lap race and pulled away to earn the win in a season’s best 31:41.17. Maureen Koster finished in second position to take silver in 31:45.76 for the Norwegian. Belgium’s Jana van Lent earned bronze in 31:47.81.
Battocletti also took the 5000m gold medal at the European Championships with her 15:37.84 win, which matches her output from the 2024 Rome European Championships. Her 5000m personal best is 14:23.15 from the 2025 Rome Diamond League meet. Her 10,000m best is from the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships, where she clocked a 30:38.23 performance.
She is an Olympic and World Championships silver medallist both acheived in the 5000m event.
