Twenty-six-year-old Wilfried Happio of France has been suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for missing three tests within 12 months. The three missed tests during a 12-month period is equal to a standard doping suspension.

“We will take time to analyze and we will present our arguments to the AIU,” Happio’s lawyer, Anthony Mottais, shared with Reuters.

Happio is a 400-metre hurdles specialist. He earned a silver medal during the 2022 Munich European Championships. He finished fourth at the 2022 Eugene World Athletics Championships, where he ran his personal best of 47.41.

Abuse claims

In 2020, Happio was accused of assaulting triple jump athlete Janet Scott. It is alleged that they were in a relationship. Apparently, there was not enough evidence provided to convict. He claimed self-defence.

In 2022, he was the subject of a complaint for sexual assault dating back to 2021. It was alleged that he committed against another athlete in the triple jump. He was eventually taken into custody on December 20 as part of the investigation for “sexual assault.”

It is alleged that there are at least three women who have complaints against Happio.

Le Monde published a story about a woman who shared her story of years of abuse by Happio. As it turns out, Happio allegedly abused the female athletes while under an endorsement contract with Adidas.

In the summer of 2022, he was accused of sexual assault by a fellow athlete who accused Happio of inappropriate touching.

The case was dismissed in June 2023.

Happio was attacked 20 minutes before he was to compete in 2022. He ended up with facial bruising and a swollen eye after taking several punches. It is alleged that Happio was attacked by a person connected to Happio’s sexual assault victim(s).
