At the Faxon Law New Haven Road Race, Connor Mantz and Aubrey Frentheway won the USATF 20k Championships in New Haven, Connecticut, on Monday. The two clocked in at 56:16 and 65:36, respectively.
Finishing in second and third place in the men’s field were Hilary Bor in 56:32 and Isai Rodruquez in 56:34.

The second and third women were Biruktayit Degefa in 1:05:42 and Edna Kurgat in 1:05:46. Degefa continues to represent Ethiopia in international events; therefore, Maggie Montoya, who finished fourth overall, is the third American athlete to complete the race. She recorded a 1:05:57 performance.
Sam Chelanga and Sara Hall were the first 40-plus masters finishers.
Mantz improved upon his own national best, which was 56:23, and ran on the way during the Houston Half Marathon in January 2025.
Mantz ran at 2:49 per km pace. He would have finished in 59:20 if the race was of the half-marathon distance of 21.1kms. Frentheway was on pace for 65:35 at 3:17 per km.
The men’s 20km road running world best is 56:01, set by Zersenay Tadese of Eritrea in 2006, while the women’s world best is 1:01:54, set by Florence Kiplagat of Kenya in 2015.
In October, Mantz will take a run at the American marathon record, which is currently held by former Moroccan Khalid Kannouchi at 2:05:38. in 2002. Mantz has run as fast as 2:05:08 during the ineligible-for-records Boston Marathon in April.
Frentheway, a Saucony-sponsored athlete, took nearly four minutes off of her 20k PB, and in June, she ran 2:27:14 at Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minn. Her win on Monday was the first of her pro career.
The Conroe, Texas native has set seven new personal bests in 2025, including a 2:27:14 marathon performance at Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, MN in June.
