You cannot be blamed for not knowing who Isaia Lasoi of Kenya is. He is just not quite — but almost — fast enough to be a known entity in running circles.

Lasoi won the 2025 Boston Half Marathon in a time of one hour and 59 seconds. Surprisingly, he has run faster; in fact, in September 2024, Lasoi ran 58:10 in the Copenhagen Half Marathon, which is currently the 17th fastest time in history. That performance makes him the ninth fastest athlete all-time, for now.

Taking second in the race was Uruguayan Santago Catrofe in 1:01:23. And the third male to cross the line in Boston on Sunday was Andrea Kiptoo of Kenya, seven seconds back. For Catrofe, his performance represents a new national record. He bettered the previous record of 1:02:03 by Cristhian Zamora from the 2024 edition of the Valencia Half Marathon.

The first American was Chandler Gibbens in 1:01:57. For the 25-year-old, the performance is a new lifetime personal best.

The first two women to finish are Ethiopian, with Fentaye Belayneh defending her 2024 title in 1:08:51. Compatriot Melknat Wudu was just two seconds back, and well clear of third-place finisher Evaline Chirchir of Kenya in 1:09:01.

The 25-year-old Belayneh owns a best of 1:07:31 from the Lisbon Half Marathon run in March this year.

Watch out for Wudu. At age 20, she just ran Boston as a personal best. She owns the world indoor and outdoor two-mile record at 9:07.12 run in February 2024. Chirchir ran 1:06:01 in 2020. It has been a while, but in fairness, the PB came on a fast course at the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon.

The fastest American was Megan Hasz-Sailor, who clocked in a sixth-place 1:09:39, which represents a new PB.

The course has many turns and is rolling in nature, but the prize is worth the effort, for those finishing in first place earn $15,000.
