The Allianz Memorial Van Damme in Brussels is taking place on Friday, August 22.
The final Wanda Diamond League meeting before the Zurich finale. With important qualification points, wild card entries for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, and meeting records at stake, Brussels will put on a compelling meet of athletics.
For example, in the women’s 100 metre dash, Sha’Carri Richardson will be looking to put her best foot forward after some slow performances. She will also want to get past her police incident, where she was arrested for her abuse of boyfriend Christian Coleman. She will be up against the most consistent sprinter this season in Melissa Jefferson-Wooden.

Meanwhile, Yared Nuguse will want to prove his recent Silesia Diamond League win was not a one-off performance. The Olympic bronze medallist headlines the men’s 1500m. The American, North American record-holder in the mile, will be accumulating valuable points after failing to qualify for the 2025 Tokyo World Championships.
He faces world U20 record-holder Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech, who owns a best of 3:27.72, Dutchman Niels Laros, Kenya’s Abel Kipsang and Reynold Cheruiyot. Also, Jake Whightman will step up to the start line. He won the 2022 Eugene World Athletics Championships.
The women’s 1500m and 5000m races will be interesting to watch, as well as several field events. Everyone starting in Brussels has a stake in the meet, whether it is for World Athletics points, pre-Worlds testing, or for those who have little chance of qualifying for worlds, take the Allianz Memorial Van Damme as an opportunity to race in a world-class meet.
