Canadian Melissa Bishop-Nriagu won the Sunset Tour meet 800m event in Sacramento on Saturday night with a 1:58.36 finish time. She is the national record holder with a 1:57.01 to her credit.
American Sadie Henderson finished second in the time of 1:58.62. Taking third was fellow American Sabrina Southerland who clocked a 1:58.77.
Canadian Lindsay Butterworth who made the Olympic team in the 11th hour with her first sub-2-minute performance clocked another sub-2 finishing in fourth position. She recorded the time of 1:59.86. And yet another Canadian toed the line in Natalia Hawthorn, a 1500m specialist, who was running the under-distance race as a tune-up towards Tokyo.
Butterworth qualified in Montreal at the National Championships on June 25 with a 1:59.19 clocking for the win.
Bishop-Nriagu owns a World Championships silver medal and finished fourth in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
