The Barcelona Marathon that was scheduled to run on Sunday, March 15, is now postponed to October.
This comes after the Rome Marathon was cancelled and the Paris Marathon was postponed last week.
Other marathons have either been postponed, cancelled or the mass participation portion of the event has been cancelled including Tokyo, which was the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games Trials for Japan.
A Tweet from the organisers read, “Dear runners. We are truly sad to inform you that the Marathon of Barcelona has been postponed to the 25th of October. This was due to the security reason with regards to COVID-19 and following the WHO & Health Authorities recommendations on this matter for major international events.
Spain has reported over 500 cases of the 106,000 globally.
Thailand has withdrawn from the Tokyo 2020 Wheelchair Rugby competition.
