Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, BC won the bronze medal at the 2013 IAAF World Track and Field Championships. on Friday, August 16th.
Armstrong threw for a season-best 21.34-metres, while gold medallist David Storl of Germany won his second consecutive Worlds gold by throwing 21.73m and the silver medal went to American Ryan Whiting with his 21.57m.
Earlier this month Armstrong was awarded a silver medal from the Daegu, Korea 2011 World Championships, as Andrei Mikhnevich of Belarus tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and subsequently had his performances annulled dating back to 2005. Armstrong was also awarded a World’s indoor bronze from the 2010 championships. For Armstrong, this makes seven international medals to his credit, including a junior World championships win from 2000.
Armstrong is the Canadian record holder in the shot put. The thirty-two-year-old is also the reigning Commonwealth Games and Pan American Games champion.
Armstrong previously competed in the Hammer Throw event and was even a high-jumper as a teenager.
The case of Andrei Mikhnevich:
The case of Andrei MIKHNEVICH (BLR) which followed the IAAF’s re-testing of a selection of doping samples collected at the 2005 IAAF World Championships, Helsinki, Finland has now concluded with the sanction of ‘Lifetime ineligibility as from 26.12.12’ published in today’s IAAF Newsletter (IAAF NEWS 145).
The results of Andrei MIKHNEVICH (DOB 12.7.76) results are annulled from August 2005 beginning with his sixth place finish in the men’s Shot Put in Helsinki.
At a global IAAF championship level, MIKHNEVICH was the silver medallist at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 2006 and 2010, and the bronze medallist at the 2007 and 2011 IAAF World Championships.
