Derek Drouin of Corunna, Ont., established a new Canadian record of 2.36-metres in the men’s high jump today at the IAAF’s Diamond League competition in Eugene, Oregon.  Drouin finished third behind American Erik Kynard (2.36m) and Essa Barshim of Qatar who set a world-leading mark of 2.40-metres.  The previous Canadian record was 2.35-metres held by Mark Boswell.  Derek will compete next weekend at the NCAA Division 1 Championship.

Also in Oregon at Diamond League Eugene Sheila Reid of Newmarket, Ont., set a personal best in the women’s 1500-metres with a time of 4:02.96, almost a full five seconds faster than her personal best going into the race.  Reid finished sixth in the race.

Cam Levins of Black Creek, B.C., finished 13in the men’s 5000-metres in a personal best time of 13:15.19, just over two seconds off the Canadian record of 13:13.96 set in 1998 by Jeff Schiebler.

Pan-American Cup

Four members of Team Canada were in action on day one of two at the Panamerican Combined Events Cup in Ottawa, Ont.  After four events in the heptathlon Rachel Machin of Calgary, Alta., is in seventh with 3307 points, Jennifer Cotten of London, Ont., is eighth with 3258 points and Rachael McIntosh of Bridgewater, N.S., is ninth with 3205 points.  In the decathlon after five events Patrick Arbour of Ottawa, Ont., is in tenth with 3646 points.  The competition will wrap up tomorrow.
