Hillary Kipchirchir Chepkwony had 17 blood samples taken between September 2022 and January 2025. It was found that his samples, numbers 14 and 15, were taken in August of 2024, which proved he was doping.

It was first reported in December of 2025 that Chepkwony was provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit.

Kenyan Hillary Kipchirchir Chepkwony has been served a notice of charge by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

The 26-year-old marathon runner received a provisional suspension on Tuesday, December 9. The AIU continues to keep an eye on Kenyan athletes in the wake of increasing sanctions over failure to comply with anti-doping regulations. Since the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, it is estimated that well over 400 athletes have been suspended from the East African country.

”The AIU has provisionally suspended Hillary Kipchirchir Chepkwony (Kenya) for the Use of a Prohibited Substance/Method (ABP case),” AIU said via X (Twitter).

Two different Joint Expert Panels (JEPs) found that, after analyzing the results, blood doping or the use of Erythropoietin (EPO) was highly likely, partially based on the number of new or immature red blood cells.

“The Athlete is sanctioned with a period of Ineligibility for a period of four (4) years, until 7 December 2029, taking into account the Provisional Suspension served to date. All competitive results of the Athlete are Disqualified since 24 August 2024, and include the forfeiture of any medals, titles, points, prize money and prizes since that date,” the ruling read.

The 27-year-old Chepkwony holds a personal best of 58:53 from the 2023 Valencia Half Marathon. He last raced in June of 2025 clocking a 1:01:58 in Hamburg, Germany.
