Shericka Jackson

Jamaican sprinter Shericka Jackson is apparently injured. She is the favourite to win the 2024 Paris Olympic Games 200-metre event. Jackson won the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships 200m in the time of 21.41. She is the second-fastest at the distance in history behind only Florence Griffith-Joyner, who continues to hold the world record from 1988 at 21.34.

Jackson arrived for Tuesday’s 200m race at the Gyulai IstvĆ”n Memorial in Szakesfehervar, Hungary, with a brace on her left knee. This was her first race since winning both the 100 and 200m at the Jamaica Paris Olympic Trials. She was grimacing during a workout at the track.

Brigid Kosgei

Former marathon world record holder and Tokyo silver medallist Brigid Kosgei of Kenya has pulled out of the Paris Olympic Games with an injury.

The Olympic marathon takes place on August 11th. Athletics Kenya has chosen to replace her with Sharon Lokedi, who won the 2022 New York City Marathon.

The cause of the injury has not been determined.

The 30-year-old owns a best of 2:14:04 from the 2019 Chicago Marathon, which continues to be the Kenyan record. Lokedi, also age 30 has a best of 2:23:23 from her NYC win, which was her debut.

Yomif Kejelcha

Meanwhile, one of the world’s all-time fastest 5000m runners Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia was dropped from the Paris Olympic Games in favour of an athlete who has a slower personal best and is just 17 years of age.

Kejelcha posted on Facebook damning the decision to take him off the 5000m team for Biniam Mehary.

“I request the people and the government of my country to stand with me and oppose my oppression and help me get the right justice,” said Kejelcha.

Kejlcha has run 12:38 this year while Mehary has a 12:54 personal best. Mehary won the silver medal at the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships in the 10,000m event.
