Toronto’s Justyn Knight finished fourth in the 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championships that took place today in Louisville, Kentucky. He helped his team, the Syracuse University Orange win the national championships for the first time since 1951.

Asked about the team win, Knight told Athletics Illustrated, “Everyone gave their best effort and as a coach or teammate you can’t ask for more. I also think that the fans got to enjoy a true non tactical race which is always fun. “

The Orange had not been on the podium at all since 1957.

The Orange came into the race ranked number two behind Colorado, however, Syracuse had three runners finish in the top-10 to record a score of just 82, Colorado finished second with 91 and Stanford 151, Oregon earned a score of 183 and were followed by Iona (231).

Knight, who is a sophomore and now and All-American, led the way for Syracuse. Asked how he felt about his own race he said, “I think the race was great! I can’t be disappointed with how things went because the team won.”

The women’s race was won by the University of New Mexico with just 49 points; they were followed in by second place Colorado (129) Oregon (214), Providence (231) and NC State with 264 points to round out the top five.
