The 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships finished up at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon on Sunday. Fifteen champions were crowned during a busy final day.
Kenya took the 1500m titles. The USA finished with victories in both 4x400m relays and discus thanks to Simon Rosselli’s dramatic men’s discus win. Jamaica captured the women’s 4x100m title. Spain won the men’s 3000m steeplechase, and European U20 records fell in both 400m hurdles finals.
Jamaica takes the women’s 4x100m title
Jamaican sprinters worked together seamlessly to win the women’s 4x100m title in a world U20-leading 42.89 seconds, for the win.
Sashana Johnson, Theianna-Lee Terrelonge, Natrece East, and Shanoya Mikalia Douglas raced hard. Douglas anchored Team Jamaica after having already earned a silver in the individual 100m earlier in the championships.
Switzerland produced an impressive 43.36 for silver, while Belgium broke its national U20 record with 43.91 for bronze.
USA women dominate 4x400m
The United States closed out the championships with the sort of relay running that leaves little room for debate. The women’s 4x400m squad — Ashtyn Lewis, Olivia Harris, Clara Adams, and Taylor‑Nicole Overton — put down a world U20‑leading 3:29.15, a time that looked inevitable from the moment Lewis opened in 52.22. Harris (53.11) and Adams (52.12) kept the momentum intact before Overton sealed the title with a composed 51.70 anchor.
Australia followed in 3:31.39, their best of the season, while Great Britain and Northern Ireland secured bronze in 3:32.08. Slovenia, just off the podium, earned a national U20 record at 3:32.26, a consolation that will age well.
USA men close championships with 3:01.39
The men’s relay offered a similar American conclusion. Quincy Wilson, Cameron Tucker, Alexander Osayemi, and Jayden DeLeon combined for a world U20‑leading 3:01.39, a time that doubled as a closing argument. Wilson’s 45.78 opener and Tucker’s 45.85 kept the race honest; Osayemi’s 45.19 third leg broke it open. DeLeon finished the job with a 44.57 anchor that removed any remaining suspense.
South Africa claimed silver in an African U20 record 3:02.76, while France lowered its national U20 mark to 3:04.80 for bronze.

Rosselli Clutch in the Discus
American Simon Rosselli pulled off the shocker of the day. Floating outside the medals entering the sixth and final round, Rosselli unleashed a monster 66.39m throw to snatch gold. The effort doubled as a brand-new North American U20 record. Estonia’s Sten-Erik Iir took silver with a 65.42m PB, while Joseph Richard Salmon of Jamaica bagged bronze with 64.37m.
Dia takes vault; Hegemann dominates hammer
Over in the vertical jumps, France’s Zackaria Dia cleared a towering 5.80m to claim the men’s pole vault title. Estonia’s Henri Apri grabbed silver via a national U20 record of 5.75m, with American Jaxon Jerabek (5.60m PB) completing the podium.
In the women’s hammer, Germany’s Clara Hegemann hurled 68.99m for gold, narrowly fending off Finland’s Pinja Kärhä (68.51m). Nova Kienast made it a 1-3 German show, taking bronze with 67.89m.
Jumpers and hurdlers whip the field
Women’s High Jump: Australia’s Izobelle Louison-Roe upgraded her 2024 world U20 silver to gold, jumping 1.92m. Hungary’s Lilianna Bátori and Spain’s Aitana Alonso both cleared 1.90m for silver and bronze.
Abdel Hamid takes the javelin title
Egypt’s Aseel Osama Abdel Hamid produced a dominating performance in the women’s javelin, throwing 59.82m to secure the U20 world title by more than three metres.
Croatia’s Vita Barbić, who had led qualifying with 56.29m, improved to 56.60m in the final but had to settle for silver.
Chinese Taipei’s Yu-Chin Tai took bronze with 54.34m, just managing to hold off American Emily Harbach, who finished fourth with 54.27m.
Women’s High Jump: Australia’s Izobelle Louison-Roe upgraded her 2024 U20 World silver to gold, jumping 1.92m. Hungary’s Lilianna Bátori and Spain’s Aitana Alonso both cleared 1.90m for silver and bronze.
Women’s Triple Jump: Bulgaria’s Viktoria Angelova fought through a stiff -1.9m/s headwind to land a gold-medal leap of 13.91m over Romania’s Daria Vrînceanu (13.70m).
400m Hurdles: Romania’s Alexandra Ștefania Uță decimated the field to win with a European U20 record of 55.33. On the men’s side, Czech Republic’s Michal Rada pulled a stunning drop from his 49.67 semi-final time to rip a 48.59 victory—another European U20 record.
Middle-distance drama: Kenya Rules 1500m, Spain Shocks Steeple
The distance events provided sheer bedlam:
Women’s 1500m: Kenya’s Josephine Sembeyo Mancha out-leaned a surging Claire Stegall of the United States by four hundredths of a second, stopping the clock at 4:16.73 to Stegall’s 4:16.77.
Men’s 1500m: Wilson Chepkwech led a Kenyan 1-2 sweep, running a slick 3:37.46 PB ahead of teammate David Kapaiko Sekento (3:38.32 PB).
Men’s 3000m Steeplechase: Spain’s Bakr El Asri broke open the traditional East African stronghold, kicking away to win gold in a European U20 record of 8:28.35. Kenya’s Emmanuel Lemiso Someki (8:32.81) and Nicholas Kitum Losiwareng (8:38.05) took silver and bronze.
