Canadian Running Magazine journalist Marley Dickinson has exposed American ultramarathon runner Camille Herron and her coach for manipulating information on Wikipedia. She has apparently “fluffed” her profile while diminishing the profiles of competitors.

In Sparta, Greece. From her Twitter account.

Her coach and husband Connor Holt has also been outed in the alleged Wikipedia manipulation.

Canadian Running Magazine exposé

Acclaimed American ultrarunner Camille Herron, who has more than 12 ultrarunning world records to her name, along with her coach and husband, Conor Holt, have found themselves at the centre of a Wikipedia controversy. It stems from several edits to the Wikipedia pages of ultrarunners Kilian Jornet and Courtney Dauwalter, which degraded their accomplishments, while also adding accolades to Herron’s own page. The edits have been traced back to Herron’s email and Holt’s IP address.

The couple has been operating under the username “Rundbowie” since February 2024, after their previous Wikipedia account, “Temporun73,” was temporarily banned for violating Wikipedia’s conflict of interest policies for the edits to Herron’s page. Just hours after Temporun73 was banned, a new account under the name “Rundbowie” was created and resumed activity, making edits to Herron’s page and to those of other athletes.

Camille Herron

Herron is noted as a world-class ultramarathon runner. Currently, the 42-year-old holds several national and world bests over 24 hours, and other multi-day race events. She won the Comrades Marathon in 2017. The legendary 85.9-kilometre race changes direction each year between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Winning Comrades is one of the major ultramarathon events on the global calendar.

Herron has been ever-present on social media. She claims that she was recently diagnosed with autism at age 42. In an April 2024 X post, she spoke out about “tall poppy syndrome,” where people are envious of others who stand out, especially women.

Herron has talked about improving her injury rate by giving up altogether on stretching. She commonly posts about training effects and her experiences on the road competing globally, apparently puffing up her image.

She is educated having obtained a Master of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Oregon State University in 2007. Her research focused on identifying the optimal anabolic stimulus for musculoskeletal health. The emphasis of the degree was on the importance of frequent light mechanical stress interspersed with infrequent high-intensity stress.

The laser-focussed athlete certainly has accomplished a lot during her career. However, will now have to defend her supposed diabolical behavior on Wikipedia.
