First, it was an unexpected gold in the men’s 4 x 100 metre relay during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Then, Canada took gold at the World Athletics Relays Guangzhou 25 on Sunday, May 11. The team is the first ever World Relays mixed 4x100m champions.

Duan Asemota, Sade McCreath, Marie-Eloise Leclair, and Eliezer Adjibi made up the team. The foursome recorded a 40.30-second performance for the win. Adjibi held off Jamaica’s hard-steaming anchor Bryan Levell, who helped the island nation for silver in 40.44. Great Britain & Northern Ireland finished third in a strong 40.88.

Canada, Australia and Jamaica took the lead from the gun. McCreath handed off to Leclair, Australia’s Olivia Dodds passed the baton to Carla Bull, while Jamaica’s Krystal Sloley took over from Serena Cole.

The third exchange was textbook, and Great Britain was well in it as Jeriel Quinoo ran the third leg, up against Asemota for Canada and Javari Thomas for Jamaica.

Canada’s final exchange was not as smooth as it could have been. But Adjibi took off hard while Jamaica’s Bryan Levell moved fast, it wasn’t fast enough.

The final results were the fastest of the previous rounds. Follow at www.worldathletics.org
