Who in their right mind would sign up for a marathon that has been cancelled three consecutive times? Former athlete Moses Tanui announced two days before the scheduled Eldoret City Marathon that it is again postponed.
The race was scheduled for April, then June and then Saturday, October 1. Now, it will be pushed to a later date again.
Tanui blamed an apparel company in Dubai for not sending products in time.

“As many of you have been aware, we have been diligently working towards organizing an exceptional marathon event that would showcase the extraordinary talent and determination of our athletes,” a statement read.
Tanui blamed the Uasin Gishu County Government for withdrawing financial support for the race. Part of their sponsorship was to support Kenyans wishing to run the marathon providing free entry.
“We scouted for new title sponsors and unfortunately there has been a delay in the completion of the transaction to deposit the prize money required to ensure that the race meets the high standards that both our athletes and fans rightfully expect,” the statement added.
Tanui throwing shade on a sponsor is not a smart tactic. He failed to name who they are, if this sponsor exists at all.
