Ethiopians Fentaye Belayneh and Yemane Haileselassie won the B.A.A. Boston Half Marathon on Sunday. They clocked one hour, one minute and 46 seconds and 1:10:26, respectively.

It was the third-fastest time for the 24-year-old Belayneh. In 2022, she finished the Delhi Half Marathon in the time of 1:09:49. Taking second was Mestawut Fikir in 1:10:27 and taking third was Senayat Getachew clocking 1:10:27 in a near three-way tie. The fourth-place finisher was just two seconds back. Nine of the top-10 finishers ran sub-1:11:00.

In the men’s race, Yemane Haileselassie had a bigger win as Isaac Kipkemboi of Kenya finished 15 seconds back at 1:02:01. Canadian Kieran Lumb finished in an impressive 1:02:03 to take third place in his debut over the distance. Cameron Levins holds the Canadian record at 1:00:18, which he achieved in Vancouver in 2023.

Fellow Canadians Thomas Fafard, Ben Flanagan and Max Turek also fared well clocking 1:02:17 and 1:02:23, and 1:02:45 respectively. Flanagan’s personal best is from 2022 in Valencia where he recorded a 1:01:00 performance. For Fafard it was his debut in the half-marathon distance. For Turek, it was his second half-marathon and a four-second personal best. He ran 1:02:49 in Toronto last year.

Another Canadian was in the race Thomas Toth who finished in 25th position in 1:07:11. The 33-year-old has run as fast as 1:04:28 in Houston in 2016.
