Daniel Muindi

Kenyan Daniel Muindi tested positive for the banned substance exogenous 19-Norandrosterone at the May 24 Lima Marathon in Lima, Peru.

On July 10, he was provided with the opportunity to admit guilt and therefore receive a reduced ban from four years to three years. He admitted guilt and will start his provisional three-year suspension immediately (July 10). Muindi has the right to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). He provided a urine sample in an in-competition test in Lima. The testing was done at the World Anti-Doping Agency-accredited lab in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Muindi ran the marathon as fast as 2:09:25 in Capetown, South Africa in September 2019. The 29-year-old’s Lima performance resulted in a 2:12:53 finish time. His second-place finish in Lima in May will be removed from the records.

Rodgers Ondaji Gesabwa

Kenyan Rodgers Ondaji Gesabwa was served a notice of allegation for testing positive for Benzoylecgonine. He is provisionally suspended.

The 2:09:40 marathon runner (2022), ran the Lima Marathon in 2024 finishing in 2:13:59 taking third position. The first four finishers are Kenyan. The winner was Dominic Letting and the fourth-place finisher was Mathew Rotich.

According to the National Institute of Health, Benzoylecgonine is the major metabolite of cocaine. It is formed by the hydrolysis of cocaine in the liver, catalyzed by carboxylesterases. It is excreted in the urine of cocaine users after processing in the liver.

Well, at least he had a good time racing in Lima.

Youssef Taoussi

Youssef Taoussi of Spain, formerly Morocco, tested positive for the WADA-banned Roxadustat, which is used to treat anemia and chronic kidney issues.

The 29-year-old set new personal bests in 2024 in the 1500m distance event and the 10km, clocking 3:36.81 and 28:39, respectively. The 28:39 was run in the Valencia 10K.

Lucy Karimi

Kenyan Lucy Karimi tested positive for the presence of EPO in competition at the Huai’an Marathon in Huai’an, China. In April a sample was taken. She was notified of her adverse analytical finding several times, however, she did not respond. The 37-year-old eventually signed an admission form to reduce her suspension by one year. Therefore she may return to competition at age 40 in three years.

Her suspension began on May 23, 2024. She has the right to appeal the suspension to the CAS.

Erythropoietin “EPO” is a hormone that your kidneys naturally make to stimulate the production of red blood cells. EPO is on the WADA list of banned substances.

Judith Jerubet

Kenyan Judith Jerubet tested positive for the banned substance triamcinolone acetonide a topical product to relieve redness, itching, swelling, or other discomfort caused by skin conditions. This medicine is a corticosteroid (cortisone-like medicine or steroid).

Jerubet tested positive in competition at the Bank of China Wuhan Marathon in Wuhan, China. The WADA-accredited lab in Beijing, China tested the urine sample.

Jerubet was provided with several opportunities to respond and admit guilt to reduce her sentence. She did not, even with extended deadlines to do so. Jerubet is therefore suspended for four years.

The 35-year-old ran the marathon as fast as 2:25:54 in Paris Last year.

Jose Eduardo Rodriguez

Mexican Jose Eduardo Rodriguez competed in the Grande Prémio Brasil de Atletismo-Niteró, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where he provided a urine sample. He tested positive for the anabolic steroid boldenone and its metabolite 5b-androst-1-en-17bol-3-one.

On July 2, 2024, the Athlete responded to the AIU by e-mail indicating several possibilities that could have caused the Adverse Analytical Finding, including. One, he received an injection administered to him in April 2024 by a doctor who had an alleged prior “conflict” with the Athlete’s coach. Alternatively, medicines ingested by the Athlete in the period May 5, 2024 to May 13, 2024 to treat a respiratory illness prior to his travel to Brazil. And three, a pre-workout supplement that he purchased in Rio and consumed on May 19, 2024, or finally, consumption of meat (beef and pork) in Brazil between May 9, 2024, and 21 May 21, 2024.

Rodriguez is suspended for four years unless he can demonstrate that he inadvertently consumed a product containing the banned substance.

Daniel do Nascimento

Daniel do Nascimento a 2:04:51 marathon runner has been banned after testing positive for a whopping three WADA banned substances.

Nascimento has been provisionally suspended by the Brazilian Doping Control Authority (BDCA) after testing positive for drostanolone, methenolone and nandrolone.

The 25-year-old tested positive in an out-of-competition test taken on July 4, 2024, while training in Kenya. He was to run the marathon in Paris.  

Nascimento owns a personal best of 2:04:51 from Seoul in 2022, which is the South American and Brazilian national record. He finished eighth at the 2022 Eugene World Athletics Championships in 2:07:35.
