The GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon will take place this Sunday, October 11th. The 2015 edition is the 36th running of the marathon and will also be run as the BC Marathon Championships. The course is AIMS and IAAF certified, so athletes looking to qualify for international competition, Olympic Trials and the B.A.A. Boston Marathon can use their Victoria marathon performance time.

The men’s marathon record is 2:13:42, and was set by the then 32-year-old Kenyan Lamech Mosotoi Mokono two years ago. In 2012 he ran his personal best in Duluth, MN in the time of 2:13:28. Mokono is back for this year’s edition to try to improve on the record.

The women’s record is held by fellow Kenyan Lucy Njeri from 2010. She ran the race in 2:37:56. She competes for the Toronto Olympic Club.

Prize money for both men and women starts at $4,000 for first and works its way down to $150 for fifth place. There is a course record bonus of $5,000 and a top Canadian citizen bonus of $1,000. The total purse available for the marathon is $37,900 including bonuses.

The course has fast and flat sections as well as many mildly rolling hills. The course takes in many of the most beautiful sections of the city. The final five kilometres are considered very fast with long downhill and flat sections throughout.

The forecast for Sunday is for a 60% chance of rain with perfect marathon running temperatures with a low of 10 and a high of 14.

The event also provides a very popular half marathon as well as an 8K race and a kid’s run.

Online registration is now closed.

The expo provides a weekend speaker series, carbo load dinner gala and meet and greet media press conference on the Friday before.
