Hosea Mwok Macharinyang was found dead by family members in his home which was located in Murkwijit village, West Pokot County, Kenya on Saturday. The death is an apparent suicide.
Macharinyang was likely best known for his strength as a cross country runner. He competed in the World Cross Country Championships eight times. He finished top-10 six of those times, once with an 11th as well as a 12th-place finish in 2013. He helped Team Kenya win three team gold medals.
The 35-year-old’s best half-marathon performance was 1:01:38 from Udine, Italy in 2010. Macharinyang won the 2007 Great Edinburgh Run.
Macharinyang was found in a storage part of the house. It is alleged that he suffered from mental health issues for a number of years. No suicide note was found.
