Using seven different cameras to follow international men and women as well as the leading Canadian men and women – TCS Toronto Waterfront is also the 2023 Canadian marathon championship – the broadcast is expected to excite a worldwide audience. Indeed, a year ago roughly 60,000 viewers in over 55 countries were able to watch live.
“We want to capture the high energy and as much of the excitement as possible,” says Matt Hortobagyi, Executive Producer. “Astrodog has produced Toronto Waterfront since 2013.”
The worldwide audience often includes some of the world’s elite runners who tune in to watch their training partners and friends compete. Ethiopia’s Waganesh Mekasah, for instance, who won the 2023 Ottawa Marathon says, “I watched the Toronto [waterfront] marathon many times on television.” She will be among the favourites lining up on Toronto’s University Avenue.
Commentary will once again be provided by Geoff Wightman who was one of the stadium announcers at both the London and Tokyo Olympics as well as the last five world athletics championships, Chris deKoning an accomplished Toronto media producer, and 2016 Canadian Olympian, Krista DuChene.
DuChene remembers well what she was doing around this time ten years ago.
