The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has suspended its investigation into the podium protest by American shot putter Raven Saunders following the death of her mother.

The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) announced that it will not sanction Saunders for the arms-crossed protest that the IOC’s much-maligned Rule 50 deems prohibited.

The 25-year-old said, “[I am] leaving social media for a while to take care of my mental and my family”.

“My mama was a great woman and will forever live through me.”

“I will always and forever love you.”
