Felix Kirui, a Kenyan distance runner, has been suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit for two years. His sample from the May 4 Durban Marathon was returned on June 21 with an Adverse Analytical Finding.
On June 26, Kirui was informed of the positive test result. On July 4, he wrote back admitting to taking triamcinolone.
Because he admitted to doping, Kirui had his standard four-year suspension reduced to two years.
Triamcinolone is a banned corticosteroid. Its use is not permitted in sport without a Therapeutic Use Exemption.
Kirui’s marathon personal best is 2:10:45 from that May 4, 2025 Durban Marathon. His half-marathon personal best is 1:03:51, which he set in 2017. His 10K personal best is 29:29. The 39-year-old has run sub-2:12 several more times.
Two Zimbabwean athletes finished second and third in the Durban race. They will now move up to first and second, while the fourth-place finisher will take third. They are Godwin Katakura in 2:11:02, Blessing Waison in 2:11:51, and Ernest Tumelo Motlagale, who clocked in at 2:12:42.
