It has been reported in various media that Grand Slam Track (GST) owes $13 million (USD) in prize money and appearance fees to athletes. The Kingston, Jamaica GST meeting’s appearance fees have already been paid out, from the April 4-6 event.

Prize money payouts are scheduled from the end of July through to the end of September, and will include the honouring of Los Angeles appearance fees.

There is discussion in the athletics community that GST is late in making the payments to the athletes and leasing costs of approximately $78,000 in LA and a similar amount in Miami.

The LA event was cancelled due to economic concerns.

“At this time, all agents who have sent the appropriate paperwork have been issued appearance fee payments for Kingston,” read an email sent to Reuters. “Our plan is to make payments for Kingston prize money before the end of July and the remaining payments due by the end of September, which includes the honouring of Los Angeles appearance fees.”

The inaugural track and field series still owes the City of Miramar $77,896 for its facility rental from its Miami meet May 2-4. The first of three payments is due by July 18.

The terms of the agreement between the City of Miramar and GST indicated that a one-time payment of half the fee was due 30 days before the event on April 2. The second half was due 30 days after the event on June 2. It is still unpaid.
