Nehemiah Kipyegon

Kenyan Mehemiah Kipyegon has been banned for three years by the Athletics Integrity Unit for doping.

The WADA-accredited laboratory in Lausanne, Switzerland, reported a positive test for Trimetazidine in February from a sample taken from the athlete in Nigeria in February. By April, Kipyegon accepted the suspension and admitted to inadvertently taking the performance-enhancing drug.

Kipyegon holds personal bests of 1:00:34 in the half marathon from Copenhagen in September 2024 and 28:24 over the 10K distance from Montereau, France in October that year. Earlier in 2024 at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya, he clocked 13:57.30 in the 5000m.

Trimetazidine is a medication primarily used to prevent angina attacks. Angina is chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart. It’s a metabolic agent.

The 29-year-old is a 12-time national champion in the long jump and a multi-time Diamond League winner.

Androgens such as T are considered beneficial for athletic performance due to the potent anabolic effects on muscle mass and bone tissue. Testosterone also increases circulating hemoglobin, which enhances oxygen uptake.
