Commonwealth Games England (CGE) announced on Monday that it had appointed Dame Laura Kenny, as its new president.

Kenny, 32, is now the youngest person to hold the position and the third consecutive woman in the role. Prior to Kenny was Dame Kelly Holmes and Dame Denise Lewis.

Kenny competed in three Commonwealth Games for Team England, debuting in Delhi 2010. She won five Olympic, seven world championship, and 14 European titles. Specializing in track endurance events, specifically the team pursuit, omnium, scratch race, elimination race and madison disciplines.

She is a mother of three with her husband Jason Kenny also a former Olympic track cyclist.

During the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, she became the first British woman to win gold in three consecutive Olympics. Then became the most successful female cyclist in Olympic history. Kenny was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2022. She retired from racing in March 2024.

Kenny’s cache of competitive experience is expected to serve her well while leading the CGE toward the 2026 Glasgow Games.

“The Commonwealth Games is a very special event,” she said. “I am excited to go back to Glasgow, where I was part of the team in 2014, in this new role.”
