Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Cooper Lutkenhaus steal the show at USATF Championships

This past weekend was an opportunity for at least 10 nations to host national athletics championships. Below are links to the results for several European countries’ events, which ran from Friday through to Sunday.

USATF Championships

The 2026 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships wrapped up Sunday at Icahn Stadium. Organizers delivered an event that offered quality sprinting, youth emergence, and a little drama.

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden proved untouchable in the Big Apple. A day after Sha’Carri Richardson took the 100-metre title, Jefferson-Wooden blew open the field in the 200m. She stopped the clock in a blistering 21.69 seconds. Cambrea Sturgis and Camryn Dickson were left battling for the remaining podium spots. They took second and third, finishing in 22.22 and 22.58, respectively.

The 25-year-old Jefferson-Wooden owns bests of 10.61 and 21.68, both set during the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships.

The 800m events

If the sprints showed raw power, the middle distances delivered pure excitement. Seventeen-year-old phenom Cooper Lutkenhaus stole the show in the men’s 800m. He executed with the maturity of a seasoned pro to cross the line in 1:43.48 for a signature national victory. He does not turn 18 until December. In June, he set the North American U20 record with his 1:42.08 running of the event in the Bislett Games in Oslo, Norway.

On the women’s side, Nia Akins returned to the top step of the 800m podium. Akins ran a masterfully controlled tactical race. She secured the national title in 1:59.25, adding another major victory to her growing resume. Addy Wiley and Meghan Hunter finished second and third in 1:59.40 and 1:59.67, respectively.

Men’s 200m and hurdles

The men’s half-lap provided the day’s biggest upset. Garrett Kaalund capitalized on the opportunity of a lifetime. He charged to the line in 20.04 for the grandest win of his career. Noah Lyles was hampered by hamstring cramps, but reassured the media afterward that he is fine.

Over the barriers, the rhythm was relentless. Olympic panache was on full display as Anna Cockrell locked up the women’s 400m hurdles title in 52.94. Meanwhile, Christopher Robinson put on a clinic in the men’s event, dominating the field in 47.61.

Four days of relentless competition in New York laid the cards on the table: the veterans still have bite, the next generation is charging hard, and the stage is emphatically set for the global stage later this season.
