Nineteen-year-old Belfast athlete breaks the Parkrun “world record,” by clocking a 13:44 performance on Saturday.
Griggs took one second off the previous mark held by British Olympian Andy Butchart. He set the mark in Edinburgh in June 2023.

The women’s world best was also set at the Belfast venue last December when Ciara Mageean clocked 15:13.
Irishman, Nick Griggs, is a known entity as he holds the Irish U18 record in the 5000m at 14:15.98 and 8:11:15 in the 3000m.
Griggs won 3000m gold at the 2021 European U20 Championships. Two years later he took silver in the same event in Jerusalem, while he celebrated team success at the European Cross Country Championships where he earned the bronze medal.
While Parkrun is not considered a competitive event and ineligible for records and standards, most courses are accurate. There are over 2000 locations globally.
