Geoffrey Kamworor wins Rotterdam: NN Running Team have a big weekend

NN Running Team athlete Geoffrey Kamworor added another victory to his career by taking the top spot Sunday in the NN Marathon Rotterdam, clocking a time of 2:04:34.

The Kenyan ran a controlled first half of the race, and by 30km, he was part of a lead group of four athletes. Looking increasingly confident, he launched his winning move a little after the 35km mark. Kamworor then relentlessly poured on the pace right to the finish line to claim a victory on the streets of Rotterdam, succeeding his fellow NN Running Team athlete Abdi Nageeye as the race’s champion.

A delighted Kamworor said, “I’m so happy, I came here for the win, and I couldn’t be happier. It was windy, but I’m happy to have made the best of it.”

Finishing in second place was Chala Regasa from Ethiopia with his 2:05:07 performance. Twenty seconds back was Chimdessa Debele also from Ethiopia.

Women

Jackie Cherono from Kenya won the women’s race in the time of 2:21:16.

NN Running Team member Aminet Ahmed of Ethiopia delivered a breakthrough performance in a tactical race, clocking 2:22:15 to earn a second-place finish, her first-ever podium in a marathon.

Ecstatic after crossing the line, the Ethiopian said, “It means so much to me. I prepared well, and I was truly hoping for a podium finish.”

Over in Brussels NN Running Team members racing at the European Running Championships, Maru Teferi and Lonah Salpeter both clinched bronze medals in the men’s and women’s marathon. They finished in 2:09:17 and 2:28:01, respectively.

Earlier in the day, Enock Kinyamal of Kenya posted a strong run at the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris, finishing fourth with a time of 2:06:31 just six months after his victory at the ASML Marathon Eindhoven.
