Kenyan athlete Rosemary Wanjiru led the entire Prison Service Cross Country championships at Prisons Staff Training College on Saturday.
The 26-year-old finished fourth in 10,000m at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha. Her best over the distance is 30:35.75. Here, she clocked 33:43.53.
Wanjiru defeated 2017 World Cross Championships bronze medallist Lillian Kasait. She finished second in the time of 34:17.01. It was a dominating win.
Gladys Cherono took third clocking a 25:07.24. The 37-year-old is the 2014 World Athletics Half Marathon Champion and owns a marathon best of 2:18:11. She is the ninth-fastest marathon runner all-time, with the 11th fastest performance.
Wanjiru is now focussing on hitting the start line at the Tokyo Olympic Games 10,000m this July.
