The 2025 Times Colonist 10K (TC10K) offers a new route for the 36th annual event on Sunday, April 27.

The route previously started beside the stately Parliament Buildings near the iconic Empress Hotel on Government Street. The first three kilometres then followed a downtown route before entering the residential neighbourhood of Fairfield. At 5km, runners would turn toward the waterfront and were greeted with ocean and snow-capped mountain views.

The ocean and mountain views remain for the second half of the race for 2025. However, the start immediately turns toward the neighbourhood of James Bay, wraps around Beacon Hill Park and turns again to Dallas Rd. Most of the final 5km is identical to the previous course.

There is one 180-degree turnaround on Cook Street at approximately the 3.5km point. There are 12 90-degree turns and a few more soft turns.

The elevation profile includes two gentle climbs from 12m to 27m over the first km. It then drops (rolling) until 4.5km to 5m of elevation. The following 2km rise again to 25m of height before offering an enjoyable drop for the final 4km of the race. The course ends in front of the Parliament Buildings at the stunning Inner Harbour.

At the 6.5km point, a long and gentle drop begins at Dallas Rd and Douglas St. At this point, runners will pass the iconic statue of Terry Fox. The statue is located at the landmark known as Mile 0 at the southwest corner of Beacon Hill Park.

The course is certified for records and standards by World Athletics A-certified course measurer Gary Duncan.

The event records are 28:47 by Kenyan Simon Chemoyo and 32:23 by Scottish runner Sarah Inglis. Their records were set on two different but similar courses in 1995 and 2019, respectively.

The 2025 edition expects to see a post-COVID record of approximately 8000 finishers from approximately 10,500 to 11,000 registrations. The pre-COVID record was just over 12,000 finishers.

The race started in 1990. Similar to the Vancouver Sun Run, the event supports local running in the capital city. This includes the popular Victoria Track Classic. The Track Classic is a professional meet that takes place at the University of Victoria’s Centennial Stadium in June each year. The Sun Run supports the Harry Jerome Track Classic which typically runs within a few days of the Victoria-based meet.
