Two more Kenyan athletes, Charles Langat and Rogers Gesabwa, have been banned for doping by the Athletics Integrity Unit.
Charles Langat
Charles Langat tested positive for Furosemide. This product is a banned stimulant and masking agent.
Langat was tested on Aug. 6, was notified on the 28th and on the 30th admitted fault, but blamed the issue on a physician who he claims advised Langat to take Furosemide for four days to help him recover from whatever was ailing him.
Langat had the standard four-year suspension reduced to two.
The 28-year-old has a personal best in the half-marathon of 58:53 from Barcelona in Feb. 2023. In January 2023, Langat ran the Valencia 10K in the time of 26:57.
Rogers Gesabwa
Rogers Gesabwa tested positive for cocaine in Lima, Peru. In June 2024, an accredited lab in Rio de Janeiro tested Gesabwa’s sample.
The athlete explained where he had his meals and tea daily while travelling. It was determined through the advice of a scientific authority that the amount of cocaine was unrelated to sports performance and that the athlete could have consumed it from his daily consumption coca tea. Gesabwa was handed a three-month suspension.
In May this year, Gesabwa ran the Lima Marathon in the time of 2:13:59. The 36-year-old ran a half-marathon in Guadalajara in Feb. in the time of 1:06:20. The veteran athlete from Kenya now lives part or full-time in Mexico.
