The 2025 Millrose Games produced two world records one each by Americans Grant Fisher and Yared Nuguse.

It was the 117th edition of the meet at the Armory in New York. Until 2025 there have been three world records set at the meet. Now the total is five.

Grant Fisher

In the 3000-metre event, Grant Fisher ran 7:22.91 to break Ethiopian Lamecha Girma’s 7:23.81 record. Taking third in the race was fellow American Cole Hocker. He also ran faster than Girma’s old record recording a 7:23.14 performance.

At 1000m Hocker and Fisher were at 2:29.08. Fisher then led through 2000m in 4:58.01. With three laps remaining, Hocker took over, but Fisher remained close. In a dramatic final lap, Fisher dropped a world-class kick off the last bend, overtook Hocker and led to the tape for the win and the record.

Fisher is a two-time Olympic bronze medallist in the 5000m and 10,000m events. Both medals were earned during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The 27-year-old, three-time national champion has run the 5000m as fast as 12:51.84. He also holds the North American record for the 10,000m event with his 26:33.84 performance.

At age 18, he ran the outdoor mile in a time of 3:59.38, which continues to be his personal best. Expect that time to come down to at least a national record this spring or summer. Yared Nuguse’s two-year-old national record is 3:43.97.

National records were set by Jimmy Gressier of France finishing third in 7:30.18. And by Ky Robinson from Australia in 7:30.38 to finish fourth. All but one athlete set personal bests.

Yared Nuguse

In the Wanamaker Mile, American Yared Nuguse clocked a 3:46.63 finish for the world record time. With that performance, he got within three seconds of his outdoor national record. Fellow American Hobbs Kessler ran 3:46.90. They are the first two men to break 3:47 in the indoor (short track) mile (1609.34 metres). They both bettered Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha’s 3:47.01 world record.

It was Nuguse’s third-consecutive Wanamaker win.

Nuguse took bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in the 1500m event. The 25-year-old three-time Diamond League winner holds a personal best of 3:27.80 in the metric mile. He set that time during the Olympic competition.

There also was a third American mid-distance record set at the meet in the 800m race. Josh Hoey led from gun to tape and held off Bryce Hoppel. Both broke Donavan Brazier’s national record of 1:44.21 as Hoey ran 1:43.90 to move to third globally, all time.

Fisher’s record should last longer as Lievin is the only non-Championship race Jakob is scheduled to run this indoor season.

In the mile there were three other national records set. The Australian by Cam Myers who clocked a third-place 3:47.48 running. The French record was taken by Axeddine Habz in 3:47.56. And the Irish record was broken by Andrew Coscoran with his seventh-place run in 3:49.26.
