Kenyan middle-distance great Faith Kipyegon, known for her world-class 1500 metres to 5000 metres prowess, ran a road 10 km in Monaco on Sunday, in 29:47. It was her debut at the distance.

She won the race outright. She beat all the men. The performance is not considered official yet, as she wore a prototype shoe, the Nike Alphafly 4.

Kipyegon went out conservatively. The 32-year-old mother hit halfway in 14:59 and then pushed harder during the second half, going 14:48. She crossed the finish line with training partner Bernard Soi, who also was tasked with pacemaking duties for Kipyegon.

Kipyegon currently holds world records in the 1500m and the mile (1609m) at 3:48.68 and 4:07.64, respectively. Kipyegon is also a three-time Olympic and four-time World gold medallist.

The world record is held by fellow Kenyan Agnes Ngetich, who set it with her 2024 Valencia performance of 28:46. The run puts her 26th all-time. Ngetich ran faster five of those times throughout her career.
